Dear Congressional Leader:

I am writing you on behalf of the California Statewide Law Enforcement Association (CSLEA) Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #77 and its 7,000 law enforcement, public safety and consumer protection professionals.  As you are aware, H.R. 785, the so-called “Right-to-Work Act” was recently introduced, seeking to obliterate the collective bargaining rights of all union workers in the United States.

If the Act were to pass, it would have devastating negative impacts for employees whose wages, benefits and other terms and conditions of employment are protected by collective bargaining agreements negotiated with their employer.  Without such protections, there is legitimate fear that workplace protections for employee safety, maximum hours of work and health and pension benefits will be diluted, rolling back hundreds of years of progress by labor unions.  Further, the proposed legislation is a well disguised ploy to eliminate the political power of labor unions which have served to level the playing field where corporate interests are often supporting candidates on the opposite side of the aisle.

CSLEA urges you to reject this and any other similar piece of legislation. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

Alan Barcelona, President

California Statewide Law Enforcement Association

CA FOP Lodge #77
