A thought ran through my mind as I discovered the graffiti spray-painted on the front of my workplace Monday morning. Who does this? Who makes the choice to stop, pull out a can of paint and deface someone else’s property? Then I retrieved the security camera video in search of an answer.
As I watched this individual pull up to the building at 2:14 a.m. on Sunday, February 4th, I saw someone who made a clear choice in his mind to be a drag-weight to society. What other purpose was there to his big thrill of tagging the wall? Tagging the wall in the middle of the night when stand-up individuals such as law enforcement officers are up all night, working the graveyard shift, to protect and serve. Those officers made a choice to be productive and protective members of our society.
Everything starts in our mind. We can be forward thinking or backward thinking, positive thinking or negative thinking, acting for the betterment of society or acting for the degradation of society. We have young men and women who have chosen to serve their country and then we have this individual who has chosen to serve some sick sort of self-gratification.
To those who choose to stand tall and stand for what’s good and right, I thank you. To those who act to drag us all down, I say shame on you – change your thoughts, move into the light! Be a contributor to society, not a delinquent! It’s a choice and the choice is YOURS!
